Emergency Response Team (ERT)

Once an emergency had occurred and the Emergency Management and Continuity of Operations plan has been activated, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) will oversee the recovery and restoration process that is executed by the response teams. The ERT will fulfill many operational functions during an emergency and is the primary vehicle for implementing and managing the emergency response.

The Emergency Response team consists of the Assistant Vice President of Compliance, Safety, and Enterprise Risk Management and the Assistant Vice President of University Police and Emergency Management with others added based on specific incident needs.

Building Marshals

In the event of a campus emergency, the Building Marshals will assist at the evacuation site reporting any injuries or other pertinent information to AUPD and any other first responders. Building Marshalls will not sweep the building prior to evacuation but will evacuate like other occupants. We strongly encourage all building occupants to become familiar with their Building Marshals. The resident directors will serve as the Building Marshal for the residence halls. Training by AUPD will occur twice a year. If you are interested in being a Building Marshall, please email the Captain of Police Administration, Rima Sifri at sifri@american.edu.
