Communication May 30, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the addition of Marshall Taylor to American University’s leadership team as our new Associate Vice President for Human Resources & Chief Human Resources Officer. Some of you may already know or have worked with Marshall, as he previously led the development and implementation of all human resources programs and strategies at WAMU. Marshall will return to AU to begin work in his new capacity on June 3.

Marshall will oversee our HR enterprise, with responsibility for helping to manage the university’s budget for compensation and benefits. Specifically, he will lead our efforts to improve recruiting and onboarding to attract and retain a high-performing and diverse faculty and staff; assess the current HR organization and ensure alignment of staffing and structure with institutional priorities and HR best practices; optimize the people, processes, and technology to continue to support the success of Workday; and serve as an advocate to uplift the voices of AU’s employees to the senior leadership, and ensure that they feel valued and supported.

Marshall is an accomplished human resources executive with significant experience working for academic institutions and nonprofit organizations and, most recently, having served as the Chief People Officer for the Humane Society of the United States. He previously served as Vice President of Global Human Resources and Legal Affairs at the Atlantic Council, and as both Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer and Interim Chief Human Resources Officer at Georgetown University. Marshall also has held significant legal leadership roles, including General Counsel of the NAACP and Senior Associate General Counsel at Howard University.

Marshall received his law degree from the University of California-Los Angeles School of Law and a Bachelor of Political Science degree from Bucknell University.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Beth Muha for her 29 years of distinguished service and invaluable contributions to the AU community. She has served as a steadfast and strategic leader for the entire Human Resources team as well as the university’s faculty and staff community.

Onward,

Bronté
