March 4, 2024 Abdul Aziz Said Phi Epsilon Pi Scholarship $2,000 The Abdul Said Phi Epsilon Scholarship provides a $2,000 award to deserving undergraduate sophomore students enrolled full-time in a degree program at SIS. Applicants must submit a written essay illustrating their demonstrated efforts to enhance the environment of diversity at the university and beyond. Recipients should have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and, if applicable, a TOEFL score of 600 or higher. April 11, 2025 Alan H. Fleischmann and Dafna Tapiero Fleischmann Internship Fund $2,500-$5,000 The Alan H. Fleischmann and Dafna Tapiero Fleischmann Internship Fund is awarded each year by the SIS Office of Career Development to an undergraduate student who obtains a summer internship. To be considered, you must be enrolled as an SIS major at the time of your internship; have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA; and secure a summer internship no later than May 15. A call for applications is sent by email in late February with application materials, including an online form and personal statement, due by April 11. March 4, 2024 Alice Gale Johnson Scholarship $1,250 The Alice Gale Johnson scholarship is awarded in a student's sophomore year. Eligible applicants will have attained a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, completed a minimum of 30 credits per year, and meet the University requirements for financial assistance. This undergraduate scholarship is renewable for recipients who continue to meet these criteria. Eligible students will be contacted via email each spring when the application cycle opens. March 4, 2024 Charles L. and Dora E. DeLong Scholarship $2,000 This undergraduate scholarship is established in honor of the Reverend Charles L. and Dora E. DeLong, by Dennett and Elizabeth Guthrie. The purpose of this award is to provide $2,000 to a deserving sophomore, junior, or senior student enrolled full-time in a degree program at SIS. Not applicable Ernest S. and Margaret D. Griffith Scholarship $5,000 Awarded annually to support incoming first-year students who best exemplify the School of International Service's commitment to public service and exhibit academic excellence. All students who apply to American University and indicate SIS as their degree of interest are automatically considered for the Ernest S. and Margaret D. Griffin Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded based on your original application to the undergraduate program. general

November 15, 2024 Leon E. Clark Endowed Fellowship $5,000 The Leon E. Clark Endowed Fellowship sponsors research on development issues with a “cultural” lens. Each year, the Fellowship finances the independent study projects of one current International Development and/or Development Management student with a focus on Latin America and the sociocultural and political dimensions of development. TBA Matthew C. Schlonsky Memorial Award $2,500 The School of International Service Matthew C. Shlonsky Memorial Fund for the District of Columbia was established by Dean James Goldgeier in 2015 in memory of Matthew C. Shlonsky, SIS/BA '14. The fund will support SIS faculty and students who wish to draw on their international affairs research to address challenges facing the District of Columbia and will be administered by the SIS Office of Research. March 4, 2024 Matthew and Cynthia Warshaw Endowment $2,500 The purpose of the Matthew and Cynthia Warshaw Scholarship is to provide $2,500 to a first-generation undergraduate student who meets the University’s eligibility requirement for financial assistance. Recipients must be enrolled full-time in a degree program at SIS and be in good academic standing. The award is renewable for students who continue to meet these criteria. November 15, 2024 Walter Sherwin Award for Excellence and Service $5,000 This annual award provides $5,000 in spring semester tuition to a student who has completed their first year of study in the International Development or Development Management program. The two main criteria are academic excellence and a record of effective and active service to outside communities and/or relevant student organizations. November 15, 2024 David Hirschmann Award $5,000 The David Hirschmann Award is distributed annually to a second-year International Development or Development Management student from a developing country who has achieved an excellent academic record and demonstrated a commitment to community service. March 4, 2024 SIS Davenport Scholarship Fund Up to $2,000 The SIS Davenport Scholarship Fund was established in recognition of the values and initiatives important to the formation of the SIS Davenport Lounge, such as but not limited to social justice, environmental justice and sustainability, social enterprise, and community development. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support for expenses related to experiential co-curricular activities for SIS undergraduate (majors and minors) and graduate students who, in accordance with the University’s financial aid policies, demonstrate financial need. Eligible activities may include unpaid internships, attendance at academic conferences or competitions, study abroad programs, etc. Awardees must be in good academic and judicial standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA. general
March 4, 2024 SIS Undergraduate Study Abroad Support Fund Up to $3,000 for semester programs, and up to $1,000 for alternative break, winter, or summer programs The purpose of the SIS Undergraduate Study Abroad Support Fund is to provide financial assistance to support non-tuition study abroad expenses to AU degree-seeking undergraduate students in SIS. Awardees must be in good academic and judicial standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Grants may be used toward a single semester, summer, winter break, or alternative break program abroad.
