Caren Street, Chief of Staff, Representative Karen Bass (D-CA-37)
WeLead Class of 2012-13
Caren Street has more than a decade of bipartisan, bicameral Capitol Hill experience, and currently serves as Chief of Staff for Representative Karen Bass (D-CA-37). Street also serves as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, on the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations, and on the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. Prior to joining Chair Bass, Street served as Policy Director for the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) under the former Chair Cedric Richmond. In this capacity, she supported the legislative efforts of each of the Members of the Caucus and advanced the Chair’s agenda for the 115th Congress.
Before moving to the House, Street worked for former Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) for almost a decade, ending her tenure as Senior Policy Advisor for business, economic development, and labor issues. Street began her Hill career as an intern and staff assistant for Johnny Isakson (R-GA).
Street graduated from Howard University, where she earned a B.A. in Legal Communication, and earned her J.D. from George Washington University Law School’s evening program. She hails from Stone Mountain, Georgia, and is a long-suffering Atlanta Falcons fan.
