Housing and Residence Life hopes to create communities where students feel they belong authentically, where diversity including visible and nonvisible identities are celebrated, and where inclusion is not only embraced but is paramount. Our Affinity Housing communities celebrate the diversity of our students, and create supportive and inclusive environments to thrive. Read below for descriptions of each community!

Black Affinity Housing
Explore Culture & Identity
Black Affinity Housing, established in 2020, is a live-in theme program located in Roper Hall. All American University undergraduate students who reside in the Black Affinity Housing help foster a warm and vibrant community supporting social, personal, and academic success. The community is open to all undergraduate students.
What to Expect
Residents in Black Affinity Housing are strongly encouraged to participate in periodic community programming and dialogues intended to build community, promote learning, and support wellness. Roper Hall staff will organize opportunities for residents to attend cultural events and general university programs as a group. Students will gain leadership skills, learn to better understand one another, form friendships that can last a lifetime, and have fun.

FIRST Flight Floor
The FIRST Flight Floor is a supportive and enriching residential community designed for students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education. This community fosters a welcoming environment where residents can navigate college life together while receiving tailored resources and support.

Eagles in CommUNITY Floor
The Eagles in CommUNITY floor is an inclusive and affirming residential community dedicated to LGBTQIA+ students and their allies. It provides a safe and supportive living environment where students can be their authentic selves, while engaging in meaningful connections and educational experiences.
