Ben Crawford (JD '24)
Ben Crawford is a recent graduate of American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL), Class of 2024, where he received his JD cum laude. Ben is a recipient of a prestigious Arthur C. Helton fellowship from the American Society of International Law, for which he will conduct post-graduate research on and advocacy for the respect of international humanitarian law.
While in law school, Ben served as a legal fellow for the American Red Cross – International Humanitarian Law Program; an Atrocity Prevention intern for the U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Conflict & Stabilization Operations; a legal intern for the Office of Policy, Programmes, and Legal at Geneva Call; and a legal intern for the Office of General Counsel at Families Against Mandatory Minimums.
During his time at AUWCL, Ben availed himself of every opportunity to learn more about his fields of interest, which include international humanitarian law, international criminal law, international human rights law, national security law, counterterrorism, sanctions, litigation, and more. To that end, Ben participated in the Summer Law Program in the Hague, the International Law Commission Experiential Opportunity, the Kovler Project Against Torture, and the Criminal Justice Clinic – Prosecution section. Significantly, Ben competed at the 40th Jean Pictet Competition and was a semifinalist at the 10th Clara Barton International Humanitarian Law Competition as a member of the War Crimes Research Office International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Team. Ben subsequently coached the next IHL Moot Court Team, who advanced to the semifinal round at the 43rd Jean Pictet Competition. Ben also served as President of the Criminal Law Society and as Equity & Inclusion Editor of the Criminal Law Practitioner.
Ben graduated cum laude from Villanova University in 2021. At the time he joins the council, he is actively studying for the District of Columbia Bar.
