For 1L Jayla Meeks, American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) represents a purposeful journey defined by determination, growth, and community. For Meeks, the decision to attend AUWCL was clear: "No other school could have aligned more perfectly with my purpose," she said, citing the school's "legacy of public interest, its location in the heart of policymaking, and its community of changemakers." she views AUWCL as the ideal environment for her personal and professional development.

Meeks highlights the transformative nature of her law school experience, particularly in developing resilience. "The most valuable thing I’ve gained is the ability to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations," she said. Law school's daily challenges, from cold-calling to seeking assistance, have taught her that "growth happens in discomfort." She says this realization will be crucial for her success not only in law school but throughout her life.

Community is another cornerstone of Meeks' positive experience at AUWCL. She expresses deep appreciation for the supportive environment, where "upperclassmen mentor beyond expectation and professors break down complex ideas with care. Champion What Matters is more than just a slogan; it reflects a genuine commitment to supporting each other,” Meeks said.

Reflecting on the words of Martin Luther King Jr., Meeks said that "every generation is responsible for the challenges of its time." She believes that understanding the foundations of the country and its laws is essential for navigating current challenges and advocating for a more just future. Her advice to aspiring law students is to "envision the impact you want to have with this degree."

Jayla Meeks' enthusiasm for AUWCL is evident. She is eager to leverage the school's resources and community to achieve her goals and make a meaningful impact on the world.
