Rachel Berman (3L)

My name is Rachel Berman and I am a rising 3L at AU WCL. I grew up close to WCL in Bethesda, Maryland and attended Pennsylvania State University for my undergraduate education where I majored in public relations. I decided that I wanted to attend law school during my senior year of college because I developed a strong interest in the law and wanted to pursue a career dedicated to client service.  I wanted to return to the D.C. area for law school and after learning about the various student programs, organizations, and academic resources during my tour, I decided to attend WCL. The WCL Clinic program for upper-level students stood out to me, specifically the Criminal Reentry Clinic. I am hoping to get involved in criminal justice work in the local community and the WCL Clinics are a great way to get hands on experience helping real clients with matters in various legal areas. I was able to gain exposure to local government agency work during the summer following my 1L year, when I interned for the D.C. Department of Health. I am grateful for the amazing professors and academic and career advisors at WCL because they are devoted to helping students succeed, discover opportunities, and feel more comfortable in the process. I am excited to guide and assist prospective students so that they can feel confident in their law school decision. Castelle Eskin (3L)

Castelle is a 3L student from Los Angeles, California focusing on Public Interest Law.  She went to undergrad at Muhlenberg College where she majored in Theatre and Public Health. In undergrad, Castelle developed her passion for helping communities through her work at a national LGBTQIA+ nonprofit. While working during the day, she started law school in the Fall of 2022, in the evening program. In the Summer of 2023, she transitioned to a full-time schedule. Since her first year, Castelle has been involved in the externship program, clinic, and multiple student organizations. She loves the Washington College of Law, as well as her life here in DC with her two cats, and she is looking forward to sharing her experiences. You can reach Castelle here. 

Bolu Jegede (2L)

My name is Bolu Jegede and I am a 2L. I was born in Nigeria, but now currently live in Colonia, New Jersey with my family. I received a degree in Philosophy from Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois. During my senior year, I studied away in Washington, DC and here I found and fell in love with WCL. As a 2L, along with my classes, I am a Junior Staffer on American University’s International Law Review, a Column Writer on the Human Rights Brief, and the Secretary on WCL’s chapter of the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP). When I am not on campus, you can find me with my head buried in a book, wandering around a museum, listening to a podcast, or at a concert. Saumya Sinha (3L)

Hello, my name is Saumya Sinha, and I am a 3L full-time JD candidate at the American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL). I grew up in Mumbai, India and moved to the U.S. in 2016 to start my undergraduate career at the University of Washington in Seattle. I graduated from the University of Washington in 2020 with a degree in Research and Experimental Psychology. After graduation, I worked at an inpatient psychiatric hospital near Seattle for couple of years before coming to law school here at AUWCL. I was drawn to AUWCL not only because of their expansive course offerings and countless experiential learning opportunities, but also the collaborative environment resulting from the diverse background and interests of the student body and faculty. Since coming to AUWCL, I have had the opportunity to experience these benefits firsthand through my courses and extracurricular activities. In addition to being a Student Ambassador, I am a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, where I compete in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria each spring. Additionally, I serve as a Note and Comment Editor on the Administrative Law Review and as a Writing Fellow for the Legal Rhetoric Department. I am also a member of several student organizations on campus, including the South Asian Law Students Organization (SALSA), WCL ADVANCE (First Gen Coalition), and Women of Color Coalition.
