The AU Cornerstone Madrid SIS Scholars curriculum allows students to graduate on time with their class. Students take required courses from the AU Core, courses that meet SIS requirements, a Spanish language course (offered at all levels from beginning to advanced), and incredible electives about Spanish culture and history with other AU students studying in Spain. Students will take classes at the International Institute of Madrid, which is around a 10 minute walk from their student residence, as well as their Spanish class at the ISDE Law and Business school, which is around a 10 minute bus ride from their student residence.

Courses

AU Madrid Semester (Fall) 

Take up to 15 credits

Required:  

  • SISA-103 International Migration and Refugee Crises (3 cr.)  

    • AU Core requirement (Socio-Historical Habit of Mind) and SIS Regional Course - Europe 

  • SISU-106 First Year Seminar- Unveiling Spain (3 cr.)  

    • SIS Major requirement 

  • SPAN-XXX (3 cr.)  

    • Students are able to take Spanish at all experience levels 

Suggested (choose 2):  

  • WRT-100 College Writing (3 cr.)  

    • AU Core requirement 

  • ARTH-256 Mediterranean Art History (3 cr.)  

    • AU Core requirement (Creative Aesthetic Habit of Mind) 

  • ECON-200 Microeconomics (3 cr.)  

    • SIS Major requirement 

AU DC Semester (Spring) 

Take up to 16 credits

Required: 

  • CORE-100 American University Experience I – AUx1 (1 cr.)  

    • AU Core requirement 

  • WRT-101 College Writing OR WRT 106 College Writing, Intensive (3 cr.)

  • SISU-105 Introduction to International Relations (3 cr.)  

    • SIS Major requirement 

  • CORE-105 Complex Problem Seminar (3 cr.)
