Student orientation leader helping international student.

Working on-campus can be an excellent way to enhance your time here at AU. From meeting more students, faculty, and staff to engaging with the university on a professional level, on-campus work positions make a great addition to the AU experience.

Eligibility

  • All students must be in good academic standing and be enrolled full-time (except during school breaks or with an approved Reduced Course Load).
  • F-1 students: On campus employment is considered “incident to status,” meaning you are permitted to work on campus as soon as your F-1 status has been activated.
  • J-1 students: On campus employment requires prior written authorization from ISSS before you can begin working.

Hours

  • While school is in session, students are eligible to work part time (20 hours a week or less).
  • While school is not in session, such as winter, spring, and summer breaks, students are eligible to work full time (more than 20 hours a week).

Authorization Process

  1. Find a job on-campus and get hired
    • Log in to iEagle. Submit the On-Campus Employment Authorization e-form under Current Student (Request Forms?). ISSS will process your request for authorization and notify AU Human Resources when your authorization has been processed.

You must request authorization every semester you work on-campus. On-campus employment authorizations are valid from the first day of the requested semester or term (fall, spring, summer, or winter break)
    • J-1 students must also obtain an authorization letter from ISSS before reporting to work.
  2. Schedule an appointment with the University's Payroll Office to receive your on-campus employment letter.
    • Follow all instructions available on HR's website here
    • The University's Payroll Office will provide detailed information about how to apply for a Social Security Card. Please direct specific questions to their office
    • Students working on-campus at third party service providers, such as Campus Bookstore or the IAP office, must contact them directly for the tax forms and the employment verification letter.
  3. Bring your on-campus employment letter to the ISSS office during the office hours (Monday-Friday, 9AM - 5PM) to have it signed and stamped.
  4. Apply for a Social Security Card, if you do not already have one. Read our Social Security information page for information about the application process.
