Frank Cox Jones Scholarship
Mac Burgoyne
Mac is a rising senior pursuing a dual degree in mathematics (BS) and international studies (BA). She is passionate about combining math and statistics with international relations in her research, and her women's rights advocacy book is currently in the publishing process. She has spent a greater part of her life teaching math and is continuing to do so, supporting basic statistics courses at AU. In her free time, she plays and writes music in her all-female rock band.
Ally Friedman
Ally Friedman is a rising senior majoring in mathematics and physics. She is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She works as a math tutor in the math/stats tutoring lab and as research assistant in a physics optics lab. She is very grateful for the community that the math department has created at AU.

Wendy Eldred
Wendy Eldred is a rising senior at American University majoring in mathematics with minors in Spanish and computer science. She works as a tutor in the Math & Stats lab and is the president of Not Math Club. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, running, crossword puzzles, and cross-stitch. Wendy is from Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Sophia Scian
Sophia Scian is an honors Mathematics major with a Biology minor. She is on the pre-med track and is graduating in Spring of 2024. In addition to her coursework at AU, Sophia has been a tutor in the Math and Stat department since Fall 2023 and has been working on an independent study in the Spring 2024 semester regarding modeling iron pathways in macrophages. Outside of mathematics, Sophia has been a member of American University's women's rugby team since Spring 2022, serving as safety officer and secretary during the Spring 2024 semester. Sophia enjoys staying active, finding new music, and drawing or painting with watercolors. Her plans after graduation are to study for the MCAT over the summer and apply to medical school within the year to eventually become a pediatrician.

Amanda Gabrielle Concepcion
Amanda Gabrielle Concepcion is a senior at American University majoring in Data Science, minoring in Public Health, and pursuing a Certificate in Advanced Leadership Studies. She is interested in using her passions in data science and quantitative methods to address health disparities within marginalized communities. This summer, she will be a participant of the Biostatistics and Data Science Summer Training Program at USC where she will be conducting health research. After graduating in December 2024, Amanda plans to continue pursuing her interdisciplinary interests in health equity, public health, and epidemiology.
